Class Descriptions

Yoga as Medicine

Do you suffer from back pain? Headaches or migraines? Do you feel anxious, worrisome or suffer from depression? How about PMS symptoms or insomnia? These “dis-eases” are your body’s way of getting your attention. Come take a yoga class that helps address not only your body’s “dis-eases”, but more importantly, address the emotional and spiritual components of pain. This class focuses on breathwork, meditation and asanas (yoga poses) to help you feel centered and balanced. In each class we will explore how specific poses can help with specific ailments that affect your body.  Come take a class that will not only change the way you view sickness and disease, but also change the way you view yourself.

Tai Chi

You may have seen the beauty of Tai Chi in action during the last Summer Olympics. Now, come and experience for yourself the wonderful health benefits of doing this exercise. Tai chi has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety and help with mental clarity. In addition, tai chi is great for improving flexibility and balance.  Tai chi is an internal Chinese martial art often practiced for health reasons: its soft martial techniques, demonstration competitions, and non-weight bearing exercises all contribute to good health and longevity. During this class you will learn the 24 movements of the Yang tai chi style. Come learn an exercise that will help you with balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness.  Tai chi is a wonderful exercise for the body, mind and spirit.

Advanced practitioners may be invited to join a separate, private study group.
